Biography

Funeral services for Walton Sherwood Raley, age 77 of Madisonville, are scheduled for 11 am., Thursday, July 22, at the Madisonville Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Troy Brooks will officiate. Interment will be in the Willowhole Cemetery in North Zulch.

Visitation will be from 9 am to service time Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Bailey, Alan Dillon, James Dillon and Gary Young.

Mr. Raley was born in Houston, Texas on May 13, 1933 to Jesse Clarke Raley & Edna Raley Singletary and passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. He moved here in 1943 from Houston and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Madisonville. Mr. Raley worked as a mechanic on automobiles and also on lawnmowers. When younger, he was a amateur ham radio operator. For many years he worked at the Madisonville Theatrewhere he ran the projector. As a hobby, he enjoyed building bird houses, many of which were displayed in his yard.

Mr. Raley was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph Alan “Skippy” Raley and a sister, Billye Ruth Hickman. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Raley of Madisonville; son, Michael Raley & wife, Diana of Arlington; sister, Mary R. Dillon of Salado; three Grandchildren, Carrie Leanne Munoz & husband, Jeff, Katie Michelle Raley, Erin Elizabeth Raley and great granddaughter, Gabrielle “Gabby” Munoz and several nieces and nephews.
